Located in the picturesque little coastal town of Ballycastle, the North Coast Smokehouse produces amazingly delicious smoked foods, handcrafted in small batches.
The North Coast Smokehouse adds something special to the already spectacular Causeway Coast and Glens of Antrim region. Sampling their smoke-roasted organic salmon, smoked sea salt, smoked cracked pepper and smoked dulse (seaweed) flakes is a must when you visit the North Coast.
Ruairidh Morrison and Melanie Brown returned to the northern hemisphere from New Zealand a few years ago to raise their young twins and start a new smokehouse business on the north coast of Ireland. The business began by producing hot-smoked salmon at markets, for customers to eat there and then. People loved it and the couple were encouraged to set up the smokehouse to produce their goods for eateries, shops and accommodation providers along the coast.
Their smoke is produced the old fashioned way, by simply burning small quantities of beechwood or whiskey-soaked oak. (No liquid-smokes, paints or dyes are used by these guys). Their wonderful flavours and colours come from just the right combination of cure, smokiness, temperature, time and fresh sea air, and from each batch being carefully and individually monitored. They have won UK Great Taste and Blas na hEireann Irish Food Awards.
Purchase of smoked goods, tours and workshops available.
